It is normal that enthusiastic about a piece of furniture simply because apparently old. Are attractive for the design or the color of your upholstery. The furniture is upholstered in leather or textiles spread on a wooden frame. Then, put pillows on top, and finally they are sewn or stuffed into the sleeve that covers it. The padding is important to increase the thickness of them. Markers are generally used, hair, soft feathers, wool and other soft items.

In the sixteenth century, the tapestry, which was already quite thick, went further in search of comfort (see an example of colonial furniture) and started to use additional pillows and loose carreaux called. But it is only in the seventeenth century, when they begin to use elastic, that the concept of comfort is definitely linked to the upholstery. Thus the technique, with appropriate technology updates, is the parent of the current upholstery.

Until a few years, the upholstery was classified into two major families: the filling and easy on soft elastic fabric. The first could consist of only one layer of cotton felt, wadding, hair, moss or any other similar substance, over a wooden frame and covered with the coating material at the top. It can also be a set of real bugs.

In contrast with elastic trim requires a deep wooden frame. These racks are conveniently hardwood and resilient, such as ash or birch, with assemblies secured by pins glued and reinforced with blocks in the corners to provide a sufficient endurance to the tension exerted by the elastic.

Basically the cross straps and belts are sewn to each other. Above are arranged in rows of elastic, tied down and placed so as to insure against the stresses from all directions. A hessian cover by springing up on it a layer of horsehair or felt, then followed by another entreforra muslin and finally the final coating.
