The New York designer Louie Rigano has been responsible for creating a most curious lamps that have been christened with the name of Fan Lamp.  As you can see in the pictures have been created as a fan.  In fact, the author acknowledges that it has been inspired by the traditional folding fans were invented in Japan between the ages VI and VIII.

Washi paper is what is used to create them, same stuff you get at the fans.  It is very tough and durable and is engaged in a bamboo structure that is able to firmly support the heat emitted by a bulb.
