The so-called American folk art was not born at the hands of specialists or theorists who established as a formal style. Actually has its origins in the innocence and the paucity of artistic elements with the American colonists that they should therefore create objects and decorative techniques with what was possible. This point is clearly distinguishable from the so-called decorative arts form.

However, it is a style that has its own qualities and characteristics, and which highlights a great imagination and sense of design. Although imperfect, using techniques from a theoretical point of view, there are significant findings in the use of color and an interesting observation of detail, taking care to the extreme.

In this way, the American folk art recycling techniques developed by combining elements that were accessible, and creating the practical knowledge. Quilt patchwork, painted canvas rugs or woven fabric with traces of disused and stencil walls Some of the findings of this style, which even today is still used in homes.

Decorate, a venture dedicated to the promotion of American folk art, presents us with two alternatives in this decorative style. First (above) features a living room with Chippendale style, pieces of folk crafts and rustic furniture type which is combined with a mural decoration based on the adaptation of an original stencil, 1820, from an old farm in Columbus, New York. The second case (below) is a great color for the bedroom, with antique furniture and a Windsor chair, and other masonry stencil, coming here from New Hampshire.
