We hit the viburnums are special plants that are attractive shrubs, versatile, adaptable to any garden. They may perform services such as hedges or screens and in mixed borders of perennial and shrub. We like them most as specimen plants. Usually in the form of shrubs, but can become small ornamental trees (sieboldi). They range in size from small American blueberry dwarf 2 feet tall by 2 feet wide, to the Siebold at over 15 feet tall.

The Viburnums are plants with year round interest. The snack Viburnums have white flowers in spring. Some are fragrant. They have large leaves, attractive and often textured. Some viburnums have wonderfully fragrant flowers that are produced in snowball like clusters in the spring. The flower clusters can be of pink buds that turn into white flowers. Some fruits are red and black back with age. The leaves are glossy, dark green and turn a burgundy color in the fall. Summer berries are an important food source for birds. The Viburnums are a must for the avid birder. The Viburnums can have colorful red to purple leaves. Some viburnums can become medium-sized trees, especially if they are pruned. The Viburnums are specimen plants or as anchors in mixed borders and hedges. You will not find a more versatile group of shrubs for hedges or for training in groups, since viburnums hold their own in every season and landscaping. Some viburnums, such as Prague viburnum, are evergreen and have fragrant flowers. Others, such as the leatherleaf viburnum, are semi-evergreen in colder climates, losing their leaves when temperatures dip below 10 degrees.

We like Viburnums because of its adaptability and durability. While they would prefer full sun and watered moderate, well-drained rich soils, they grow very well in the shade in alkaline soils of the clay. Diseases and parasites are not common viburnums. We have more trouble from my kids running over them with brush hogs. The demand proved their durability. Yet all that viburnums chopped to the ground survived. In fact, we sold these plants for a premium as they produced better numbers of desirable stems. Their fibrous root system makes them transplant and spread easily. (We have more difficulty with the Korean Spice rooted cuttings.)

If you're shopping for a sustained hardy shrub consider one of the many cultivars of the Viburnum family. In fact select a couple. We rewarded with shrubs with all season interest.

The Viburnums have long been popular garden plants, held for white, often fragrant flowers of spring and fall color. But Asian viburnums are estimated. Viburnums Perhaps most widely known are the Burkwood viburnum (Viburnum x burkwoodii of) and the Korean spice viburnum (V. carlesii), filling the air with a delightful aroma clovelike in mid-spring. (The Mohican is a cross of the two.) Also popular is the viburnum doublefile (of plicatum tomentosum F. del V.), valued for their habit, fall foliage and clusters of red fruits layered, and its close relative the Shasta, who won a gold medal. Acerifolium of Viburnum (Maple-leafed viburnum) although no gardening without any of these, I have a special fondness for native viburnums. They can provide the flower fragrance of their Asian counterparts, but the love for fall foliage color and for their fruit displays, which attract birds to my garden in the months of fall and winter. In addition, several are useful to WaterWise gardeners or in urban conditions. They require only corrective pruning, and none commonly suffer from pests or diseases.

The Viburnums are considered moist woodland plants. In nature they are found along steam batteries Long Island to Florida. When you come to our 5275 West Rd localization plunge the requests that we show some in their native habitat that we found during our battery of the sequence. These plants perform well under normal landscape conditions. I especially like the floral display in the spring and these viburnums that bear fruit in the fall. Winterthur has great red leaves and abundant fruit in the fall. This cultivar needs a cross pollinators such as the viburnum nudum.

Native Americans used the the Viburnum dentatum (Arrowwood viburnum's) for the arrow shafts. The stems are long and narrow. This plant will grow in places many plants struggle. So if you've had trouble with plants in a harsh location try this cultivar.

In the Tyrolean Alps, the authorization, the "southern mountains of the Alps" includes a region named Tyrol, an old "ice-glacier-preserved mummy" 5300 years was found in 1991. They preserved this prehistoric man better than any other specimen ever found. What a incredible discovery. He just lying there in the snow Hauslabjoch passes on a hot day in September when two tourists who were hiking saw his head. He had a wood bow and arrows with evergreen Yew rosewood shafts. There was even a stone arrowhead of flint, the hardened dark quartz, an axehead, and what appeared to be a medicine kit in a wooden box of a birch tree. Birch is a popular landscaping tree with many varieties. How 'bout that, all these trees are referred to, sell at the farm of the hilltop!

Farm Hill Mountain is about a two hour drive if you meet obey speed limits. America's prehistoric residents and later Native American Indians used straight branches from Arrowwood viburnums, as the name implies, to the axes of arrows. Did you ever wonder at what point in their growth develop bark and become wood outside of thin tree branches and twigs? When the stems of small seedling, their "mini-trunks," grow up enough to develop bark and become wood? A green wispy thin twig have to how heavily before it become a branch of wood? The answer is usually about one half inch diameter. In fact, that is just about the diameter of the arrows of the Alpine Iceman.

The largest find since the discovery) of Neanderthal man Neanderthal man and the CRO (coordinator)-Magnon in France was discovered a few feet on the Italian side of the border with Austria who reclined at an altitude of 10,500 feet. Konrad Spindler A man released on the ice in 1995, the local archaeologist brought in when it became obvious a victim of modern-day murder had not been found. His book was updated in 2001. Two children's books have also been published to help develop their interest in historical science as something they find "current" and "boring." The intense study of the "ice-mummy" yielding all the detailed information for these books was performed at the University of Innsbruck, and the body is now on display at the museum in Bolzano, Italy.

Do you see it? The point here is that when you plant trees and shrubs you are not just creating aesthetics, adding beauty, as implied by "ornamental" in so many names. You just are not adding a display of the break or the isolation of the wind. You actually are giving your property additional natural resources.
