Vertical Village / Graft Lab
Ready to get the Gold level certification in LEED, Vertical Village designed by Graft Lab Architects is one more eco-architectural projects in the Dubai desert. The structure is a mixed use development ready for homes, hotels and entertainment facilities, which in turn serves as a large solar energy collector.
The "Vertical Village" is a residential development, hotel and entertainment that uses the most powerful source of renewable energy in the desert sun.
Designed to reduce heat gain and maximize solar output, the Village contains buildings which consist of slabs that are shaded on the north side of the field, seeking to reduce the penetration of solar radiation prolonged.
Moreover, the south side of the field is equipped with solar collectors that automatically Reverse following the path of the sun. This energy vides and redistributed through the roof.
The solar roof acts like a leaf, with veins branching solar energy into smaller units, in addition to structuring the system itself carries energy, in this case, in the form of hot water that moves around the building where it is used to reduce the consumption of air conditioning and other household chores.
Under the roofs are located at urban spaces such as cinemas, restaurants, shops and theater that alternated in scale and degree of privacy between the main entertainment strip to the south and the towers and hotels residencail north.
The residential and hotel buildings have been tilted and supported primarily to create points of interest, providing a single site in each slab, while creating a powerful and constantly changing shape as you walk through the field.
The space between the slabs is opened, it connects, it disappears and then reappears, offering a theatrical game of volumes which is expressed fully in the program entretenemiento and theater.
