The Japanese office SAKO Architects has designed the housing complex in south-west of Beijing. It consists of four residential buildings and a commercial building. 'Bumps' is one of the proponents of this month to the WAN Awards in the residential category.

Bumps in Beijing "is an integrated project with four residential buildings and a commercial building. Traditionally, the residential buildings in China are facing south and north. With increased housing density, the traditional method makes the volumes are too close to each other and the north-facing rooms can not get sunlight. "Bumps in Beijing is rotated 45 degrees from the north - south. This design provides optimum solar radiation for each building and also creates a shortcut to the business areas from different directions.

Residential buildings are 80 feet high. Every two plants are established as a unit. Each unit is staggered horizontally 2 meters, consisting entire building with repetitions of these units. Posterior areas of the set are used for terraces. Black and white units are going to highlight the interlocking concave-convex facade shows a clear guideline construction. All windows are of a square meter. Some windows located randomly weaken the existence of all the pillars and beams. Therefore, the appearance of the buildings makes them seem stacked batch of small "boxes" in white and black.
