As you know, Holland is a country that has a long history inhabiting territories which are below sea level. Large and complex drainage systems have been part of the solutions that these areas have had to deal since medieval times.

But now, instead of drainage systems have emerged some new ideas, like this one called "New Water", which proposes the first floating dwelling unit called The Citadel. Those responsible for this idea are Ken Oithuis of Waterstudio.

While this office has already developed floating homes, this is the first apartment complex, all under a philosophy of transforming a current problem into opportunity. Citadel groove built on a volume called polder water content, of which there are thousands in this country and all the houses are perfectly adapted to changes in level that occur in these containers.

Citadel will contain 60 luxury condominiums, parking lots (a floating highway vehicles) and some docks for small boats.

Besides the set would use up to 25% less energy than a conventional building techniques due to cooling water and greenhouses that will raise temperatures.
